We will board a charter bus at 5:30 pm for a trip to downtown, stopping for a backyard experience at Sheraton Capital The Yard and Backyard at Waller Creek for a light bite to eat and a drink. The Yard and Backyard at Waller Creek offers local, sustainable cuisine for a true Austin experience. Playing on the idea of a backyard, the restaurant and backyard food truck focus on merging the outdoor and creek bank with the indoors, creating a fun juxtaposition of indoor and outdoor space. Food truck and restaurant appetizers, yard games, lounge furniture create a space that encourages networking with your fellow administrators in an informal, comfortable setting. The restaurant has an elevated backyard fare and a vintage feel.
The bus will have various downtown drop-off spots. Check out these recommendations from our team on the ground in Austin.
The cost is $30 for conference attendees and their guests before March 10, and $35 after. Sign-up during registration, or email/call the JAWS Society office if you have already registered. This event has limited registration. Please sign up as soon as possible.

The Driskill Bar
Enjoy live musical performances at The Driskill Bar, recently named the best cocktail bar of Austin by The Austin Chronicle!Providing ample opportunities for convivial conversation, The Driskill Bar offers a unique collection of quiet nooks, intimate seating areas, private groupings of period furnishings and generous spaces. Patrons enjoy a relaxed atmosphere of overstuffed leather sofas, bracing spirits, fine wines and good friendships. With lively entertainment, The Driskill Bar offers a perfect setting for festive gatherings.
Located on Sixth & Brazos in Austin’s Historic Sixth Street District, enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and live music performed by some of Austin’s greatest local rock and blues bands! Sundays through Wednesdays we have live music all night long!
Some people may be turned off by the description at the bottom of the Lamberts menu: “Fancy Barbecue?” But there are so many outstanding dishes at this establishment, we urge you to put preconceived notions out of your mind. Plus, the restaurant (we can’t bring ourselves to call it a joint) is housed in a historic, brick-walled general store built in 1873, so at least it has an old-fashioned feel.
Located in the carefully restored Historic Schneider Brothers Building, Lamberts serves up inventive BBQ, modern Texas cooking, and carefully prepared cocktails. We strive to provide a comfortable, casual, & original dining experience. Our upstairs bar and lounge features live music nightly
The best of Austin live music. In the 1970's, Austin TX’s Stubb’s restaurant became the heart of an explosive music scene. Stubbs was ground zero for musicians like Joe Ely and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Other famous musicians who would “play for their supper” included Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Cray, George Thorogood, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Linda Ronstadt and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Although small in size, Stubb’s Restaurant was always filled with good friends, great music and plenty of Stubb’s Legendary Bar-B-Q. Come on down for some Live Music, Cold Beer and Great Food!
Eddie V's Lounge
RELAX. WE’VE GOT THIS ONE. Longing for a bit of civilized seduction? If live Jazz every night doesn’t do it, our expertly crafted cocktails will. Poured with precision, and served alongside the stylish rhythms of locally and nationally acclaimed musicians, a drink can easily turn into an exceptional evening. Getting comfortable happens quickly here. In fact, that’s the reason we call it a lounge.
Cedar Street Courtyard
For 15 years Cedar Street Courtyard has been perfectly pairing two of Austin’s favorite indulgences: Nightly live music and sumptuous cocktails. Bands range from bluesy jazz groups with horns and a big band flare to celebrated local and touring artists to rockin’ 70’s and 80’s cover bands for pure party fun. For the past eight years, Cedar Street is truly one of the reasons Austin is the live music capital of the world.
The sunken courtyard provides an intimate setting for guests to enjoy music nightly. Skilled bartenders shake up Austin’s best martinis and specialty drinks while offering a wide variety of beers and wines too. Cedar Street’s Main Lounge features a great selection of cigars which can be enjoyed in the open-air courtyard.
Antone's definitely is the best night club to hear REAL LIVE MUSIC! The new Antone's is one of my new favorite places to see music in Austin. After many relocations, Antone's has found a new home in downtown Austin. Up-and-coming blues star Gary Clark Jr. is part-owner of the club, which is continuing the late Clifford Antone's commitment to the blues. The ground floor has a simple layout with the band at the back and a long bar on one side. 305 E. Fifth Street
